Everway, the One True Roleplaying Game
This is not a real entry; it’s an advertisement. All of you out there who meet the following conditions:
1) You’re tired of the hideous math that D&D, GURPS, Earthdawn, and NWoD inflict on you
2) You have a DM you trust enough to allow him to do bad things to your character in the name of an awesome story.
3) You want a game with structure, but without limits
4) You want a game that’s about the role and the playing, not the hacking and the slashing
Give Everway a try. It’s not your typical RPG, not by a long shot, but it’s the coolest way to introduce new players, revive campaigns killed by rules changes, and play a game that’s all about the drama that you’ve ever come across. Look it up; most of you will be glad you did.
The problem of course being having time to run a game and finding people with whom to do so.
Also it should be noted that the math in the games you mention is nothing compared to Rolemaster. That game is the king of math based role play as far as I’m concerned. It should be noted that my bad feelings toward Rolemaster is mainly just a reflex from the most boring campaign in any game setting I’ve ever been witness to. I really do think Rolemaster has some decent roots but it’s overly complicated and contradicted in the same passage. Not to mention that the books are out of print and are largely available only in the UK.
Everyway is where one dimensional characters go to die and it’s a good thing. Also, you say look it up but don’t link to anything to look up so if someone isn’t familiar with it they will be less likely to check it out since most people (I assume) reading this you’ve already preached the word of everyway to at some point.
